Rachael's Farwell Party - June 18, 2001

Monday - June 18, 2001
My friend Rachael is leaving to serve a mission next week.  We had one last big get together with her before she left.  Everybody met at my apartment for the party.  I had called Roger and asked him to stop by before we all left.  I wanted him to meet Rachael before she left.  I just have a feeling that Roger is "the one."  After Roger left, we went to my favorite place ever, Ice Berg.  I love their ice cream and it is so fun to sit outside and visit with friends while we eat.
The funny thing about Rachael leaving is that she has been saying for years that she will never serve a mission.  She was wrong.  While we eating our ice cream, Rachael made predictions for what would happen to each of us while she was gone.
She predicted that I would marry Roger in December, get pregnant right away, and have a cute little baby girl to introduce her to when she gets home.  I laughed when she predicted that, because I had only known Roger for one week.  It's funny how close she was to being right.  Roger and I got married in November, not December!  That's the only thing that she got wrong.  Funny, huh!

Meet Roger

Meet Roger!  We met on Friday, June 8th.  My friend, Janae, is dating his friend, Dan.  They wanted to go on a double date, so they both called a friend (Roger and I) and set us up on a blind date.  I really do not like blind dates, but I felt like I should do it for Janae.  So I went.  I decided that I would have fun on that date, no matter what.  If he didn't like more or he was annoying, I wasn't going to care.  I just wanted to have fun!  And I did!  We had so much fun together.  At around 10:00pm, Janae and Dan were ready to call it quits, but Roger and I weren't ready to leave, so we decided to hang out together and let those guys head home.  We went to Roger's house and watched a movie.
My first impressions of Roger were, "Woa! He's tall!" then, "Good, he's cute!"  I was excited after meeting him and nervous.  We all rode in Dan's jeep.  The back seat was pretty small, so Roger and I had to sit really close to each other.  I liked that!  We went to play at The Fun Zone.  We started out our night by playing miniature golf.  I'm not good at miniature golf.  I thought it would be funny if I trashed talked him a little and bragged about how good I am.  He thought it was weird at first, but as we started playing, it was funny.  We had a lot of fun goofing off while we played miniature golf and, of course, I lost.  While we were miniature golfing Roger told me about a bear experience that he had.  When he was at scout camp, he and his friend, Dan, set there tent up pretty far away from the rest of the group.  They woke up in the night and there was a mamma bear and her cubs sniffing around their tent.  They were terrified!  I don't remember all the details, but they ended up just running out of the tent over to the leader's tent.  The bears didn't chase them, thank goodness.
When we were playing miniature golf and joking around a lot, is when I really really started to like him.  After miniature golf, they tried to convince me to go bungee jumping.  I was too scared and absolutely refused to go.  So, we went inside to play some games.  We spent most of the time playing air hockey.  I'm usually really good at air hockey, or at least, I always thought I was.  Roger ended up beating me at every game.  I was so frustrated, but it was still lots of fun.  After that, we sat and watched people karaoke.  I wanted to karaoke, because I love it!  But I was too embarrassed to do it in front of Roger, since we had just met.
We left The Fun Dome and went to a restaurant to eat.  I ordered ice cream.  After that, Janae and Dan left us and we went to watch a movie at Roger's house.
It was a really good date!
At the end of the date, Roger and I planned our next date. Since I had plans on Saturday, we planned to see each other again on Sunday.  We went rollerblading.  Roger asked if I was good at rollerblading.  I told him that I was.  I thought I was good at it because I had taught myself to jump down stairs on them.  The most I could jump at a time was 4.  Roger told me that he was terrible at rollerblading.  So, I was excited, thinking about how good I'd be compared to him.  It turns out that Roger was teasing me when he told me he wasn't very good.  Roger is an amazing rollerblader.  He can do all sorts of tricks that I could never do.  He plays ice hockey and roller hockey, so he is really good.  He was skating circles around me.  I felt silly for even thinking that I was a good rollerblader.  Anyway, we had a lot of fun.  We had a good laugh about how he tricked me into thinking he was bad at rollerblading.  At the end of our date, Roger asked me when I wanted to see him again.  I said, "Tomorrow's good for me."  He was surprised by that, but happy.  So, we hung out after he got off of work on Monday.
On Tuesday, June 12, 2001 Roger invited me to go boating with Dan and Janae.  Dan had his own boat.  It was a rainy day, so we were a little cold.  I was too afraid to try water skiing.  It was fun to watch Roger try though.  He did pretty good.  It was a fun date.  I had my video camera with us on that date.  I took a few pictures from my video camera of the fun we had.  They are not good quality pictures, but they are better than nothing.
