Halloween 2015

Saturday - October 31st
We went Trick-or-treating with our neighbors across the street.  The first street we went down (Century Drive) gave us so much candy, we had to go empty our bags before we went to anymore houses.  I was really surprised at how much candy the kids got on that street.  We ran into Jenny Walton and her family.  They said they always come and trick-or-treat down this one street then go home.  they get so much candy on this one road, they don't feel the need to go to any other houses.  Apparently, they have always done their trick-or-treating this way.  I was really surprised.  I had never heard of Century Drive until this year.  I remembered that before we moved in, Jennifer Francom had said something about how we live by the best street for trick-or-treating.  She was right.  They got a ton of candy down that street.

Alissa was with us for the first half of our trick-or-treating, then she left to go to Erin's house for a Halloween party.  She was frustrated, because she wanted to stay and keep trick-or-treating with us, but she didn't want to miss out on this party.  She ended up being the only friend that showed up, so that was a bummer.  She wished they could have gone trick-or-treating.
After Alissa left, we only trick-or-treated a little longer with our across the street neighbor's.  Ashley and her cousin, Alyssa, were getting tired, so they went home.  We ran into Sydney and she joined us for the rest of the night.  All night I was waiting to hear from Heather.  She was going to a party, but wanted to join us trick=or-treating when the party ended.  It ended later than expected, so we decided to cancel.  We went in to check out all our candy and wait to hear from Alissa, so we could go pick her up.

I decided to take a picture of the living room.  It's the only room in the house that has pictures on the wall now.  I love our living room.  I 'll love it even more when we get some furniture in it.

Before it was time to go get Alissa, Autumn came back over and asked us if we'd go to somebody in the ward's house to go through the haunted house they had made.  Sydney came with us.  The haunted house they did was pretty fun.  It scared me a lot.
Shortly after we got home from that, it was time to get Alissa.  Alissa called, but instead of asking me to pick her up, she asked if she could stay later.  I agreed to let her stay if the Beverlies would give her a ride home.  They said they would, so Alissa stayed later.  I had a hard time staying awake, waiting for her.  She came home happy.  She said they had a lot of fun, although she really wished she hadn't gone.  She really wanted to stay and trick-or-treat.  She's glad she went, so Erin wouldn't have to experience being devastated because nobody showed up.  She really did have a lot of fun hanging out with Erin.  She's just not ready to give up the trick-or-treating.

Trunk-or-Treat - October 30, 2015

Friday - October 30th
Today the kids got to have crazy hair day at school.  They look super cool!  Alissa has a spider web in her hair and Parker and Brinley have their hair sprayed with color.  Brinley's hair is supposed to be in a mow-hawk, but it didn't stay up very well.  She was happy with it though, so that's good.

After school, the kids changed in to their Halloween costumes and we went to the trick-or-treat around town event.  Heather and her kiddos met us there.

Alissa trip on the steps on the way up to this building.  I felt bad for her.  It hurt her shin pretty bad.  It's hard for her to see with this big funny mask on.

We went home to drop off our candy, so we could have empty trick-or-treat bags to take to the trunk-or-treats tonight.  The Thatcher/Penrose Trunk-or-treat was first.  Heather is in thee Thatcher 1st ward, so we went with her to this.  Here's Parker chillin' in the car before all the trunk-or-treating started.

As soon as the trunk-or-treat ended in Thatcher, we hurried over to Bothwell to attend their trunk-or-treat.  The 7th ward (that we lived in for the last few years) meets in the Bothwell church.  The kids had fun playing on the playground before it all started.  This trunk-or-treat was a lot more fun for them, since they have lots of friend from the ward that were here.

I did an embarrassing thing when the trunk-or-treat was over.  I put the keys in the ignition, but I didn't start the car yet.  I turned the key slightly so I could listen to the radio.  I don't do that very often.  When the kids finally finished, I had them get in the car so we could go.  Because the music was playing, I thought the car was running.  I put it into gear and tried to go.  Of course. nothing happened because the car wasn't on.  I realized it wasn't on, so, I turned the key to start it.  Nothing happened!  I was so frustrated.  I had no idea how we were going to get home and I was so frustrated that the car broke down on me.  We asked someone in the ward for help.  They assumed it was the battery and pulled up to give us a jump start.  I got in the car and tried to start it.  Nothing happened!  I was really frustrated.  The guy helping us, finally suggested that maybe it would start if I put the car in neutral.  When I went to put the car in neutral, I noticed that it was in drive.  I had put it in drive, when I thought the car was on and forgot to put it back in park when I tried to start it.  That's why it wouldn't start.  I felt so stupid!  I was too embarrassed to tell them what I had done.  The car started when I put it into neutral like the guy suggested.  I was relieved that the car was finally working and I was happy to be heading home.  I just felt really stupid for being the whole cause of the car not starting.  Good times!
We got a lot of candy and the kids had lots of fun today.

Making Cookies - October 29, 2015

Thursday - October 29th
Brinley's friend, Rachel, came over after school to play for a while.  Rachel is Brinley's friend, Onnika's cousin.  Last year, Onnika was Brinley's best friend.  This year Onnika and Brinley don't go to the same school.  Brinley made friends with Rachel.  Rachel was talking about her cousin, Onnika.  Brinley told her that her best friend's name is Onnika.  That's how they started talking about it and figured out that Rachel is Onnika's cousin.  I thought that was kind of funny how that happened.
Parker had his friends, Damien and Conner come over to play after school today.  We used to babysit Damien and Conner.  Parker ran into them again when we rented the house across the street from Meadow Park, back in 2012.  He has always kept in touch, but now that they're going to the same school, they will get to see each other more often.  Parker is really happy about that. Alissa's friend, Erin came over also.
While their friends were here, we decided to make and decorate sugar cookies.

Dirt - October 28, 2015

Wednesday - October 28th
Parker is so happy to have a yard to play in and dig.  He's been dreaming about this for awhile.  He love to make roads and drive his trucks around.

Caramel Apples - October 27, 2015

Tuesday - October 27th
We have 3 apple trees in our backyard.  We have a ton of apples!  They are so yummy!  Today we made Caramel Apples.  I need to do some searching for ideas on what to do with all these apples.  We are loving them.  They are yummy, yummy, yummy!

So, last week, on our first day in our house, we experienced a leak in the family room ceiling.  This week we experienced another leak.  When I went downstairs with Alissa to tuck her in, there was a large puddle in the center of her bed.  We were so confused.  It seemed like the water came from nowhere.  It just magically appeared.  There is a big light fixture above her bed.  I couldn't see any marks on the ceiling that would indicate that there was any kind of leak.  We went and got Roger.  He investigated a little and found a spot near the light fixture, that was moist.  We headed upstairs and started pulling things out, to figure out what was leaking.  Alissa's room is under the kitchen.  So, we checked under the sink, pulled out the dishwasher, and then the refrigerator.  We didn't find a leak coming from any of those, so Roger went back to the sink, to double check and make sure we didn't miss something.  Roger noticed a small leak in the tube that leads the water to the fridge.  The Francom's had to mess with it, when they removed their water filter system they had installed.  We're guessing that's when the leak started.  It was just a little drip, that must be why it took a little over a week for it to fill up enough to spill on to Alissa's bed. (hopefully I explained that well enough and in a way that makes sense).  So, that was frustrating!  But it was an easy fix.  The light fixture, kept the ceiling from breaking downstairs, so that was good.  The tubing under the sink didn't take too long to fix.  Roger went to the hardware store the next morning and bought what he needed to fix it.  He came home and fixed it.  He watched it for a little bit, to make sure that it was correct.  He realized it was still leaking.  So, he did a little more research and figured out that he had turned the clamp a little too tight, which causes a leak (probably what caused the first leak).  So, Roger went back to the store, bought what he needed and fixed it again.  This time it worked.  We are definitely learning a lot about this house in the short amount of time we've been here.  Another issue we're having, is that the dishwasher doesn't always start.  I'll load it, get it all ready, then hit start.  Sometimes it will start and sometimes it won't.  That's a little frustrating.  I'm pretty sure it won't be long until we'll be needing a new dishwasher.
We love our house.  Even with all the little mishaps.  We are just so happy to be in a house again.

We Finished Our Pumpkins - October 26, 2015

Monday - October 26th
We finished carving all the pumpkins and put them all outside.  We put most of them out last night, but we still had the little ones that we needed to bring out.  I love our new house!

Carving Pumpkins - October 25, 2015

Sunday - October 25th

Roger and his friend Dan fixed the ceiling today.  Alissa played Rock band for a little while.  We love that game.  We have really missed playing it.  It has been packed a way for the last couple of years.

 Parker spent a lot of time watching what roger and Dan were doing.  He was preoccupied for a little while when he found a stick.  we noticed that when he swings it back and forth when I take a picture, it looks like a beam of light .

 Once we discovered the beam of light trick, we took a few pictures.  We though it was cool.

 The kids really wanted to carve their pumpkins today, so that's what we did.

 We got a cool pattern book with our carving tools.  Brinley decided to make a really cool owl, using one of those patterns.  Parker and Alissa created their own designs.
